SLAMTEC RPLIDAR C1 360-Degree DTOF LiDAR

RPLIDAR C1 is a compact 360-degree 2D DTOF scanner with 5,000 samples/s. Manufacturer tables specify 12 m at 70% reflectivity or 6 m at 10%, plus a 460800-baud TTL UART. Match the supplied hardware to the C1M1-R2 reference and current SDK before integration.

Sourcebotics selection notes, based on the published documentation.

Application fit

  • Evaluating short-range 2D scan input for research, education and mobile-robot navigation.

Integration planning

  • Native communication is 3.3 V TTL UART, 460800 baud, 8N1. The sensor power input is nominally 5 V; signal voltage and power voltage are different. Confirm the supplied connector pinout and USB adapter package.
  • C1 support is explicitly added in RPLIDAR SDK 2.1.0. The official SDK matrix includes Windows, macOS and Linux; the ROS2 C1 launch sets serial at 460800 baud with Standard scan mode. Test the required OS distribution and transform setup.
  • The public SDK code uses BSD 2-clause terms; demo applications are separately described as GPLv3. This does not establish the licensing of SLAMWARE navigation software or every supplied bundle.

Selection considerations

  • The 12 m range applies to 70% reflectivity; at 10% reflectivity the table gives 6 m. Values outside the 0.05–12 m reference interval may be output but do not carry the documented accuracy guarantee.
  • The current English and Chinese product tables corroborate the principal performance figures. Electrical, current and mechanical details here are explicitly from the 2023-10-13 v1.0 C1M1-R2 reference; the currently linked v1.2 datasheet and v1.3 manual could not be retrieved. Match the delivered revision before designing hardware.
  • C1 is a 2D scanner. The manufacturer’s 2.5D marketing description also references reflectivity information; it does not establish a multi-line 3D field of view or a complete SLAM/navigation system.
  • IP54 and Class 1 are manufacturer-reported component claims, with no independent certification or functional-safety assessment in this review. Stock, current warranty, minimum order, delivery and Sourcebotics quote terms remain unknown.

FAQ

Does RPLIDAR C1 provide a 12 m range for dark objects?

The current manufacturer table gives 0.05–12 m at 70% reflectivity and 0.05–6 m at 10% reflectivity. The 15 mm resolution is not the ±30 mm accuracy specification. Validate the actual surface, lighting and mounting conditions.

Is C1 a USB sensor or a 3D SLAM system?

The native link is TTL UART. A host USB connection uses an adapter, whose inclusion must be confirmed. C1 outputs 2D scan data; the 2.5D marketing term does not mean multiple vertical scan channels or an included full navigation system.

Which document and SDK revision does this page use?

Main performance is cross-checked against the current Chinese and English product tables. Additional electrical and mechanical values are limited to the 2023 v1.0 C1M1-R2 datasheet because the currently linked v1.2/v1.3 documents were inaccessible during review. The public SDK release note explicitly adds C1 support in version 2.1.0. Confirm delivered hardware and software compatibility.
